Regarding social media

At the bottom of the site, I’ve posted links to my social media profiles. I didn’t post them because I think you should follow me there. Rather, it’s more of an identity verification thing. Those links are to my accounts. The profiles there all link back here. Any other accounts with names similar to mine belong to someone else.

Regarding the accounts listed:

• Fediverse (aka “Mastodon”) - I run my own Fedi instance at opayq.social  . It’s private, just for me. This is the only social app I have on my phone.
• LinkedIn - I suspended my profile for a long time, but re-opened it a year or so ago for reasons I cannot remember. I log in once every few months to find mostly spam in my inbox. Don’t follow or try to contact me there unless you don’t need a response anytime soon.
• Twitter/X - I don’t use it. I stopped a few years ago. I didn’t delete the account completely because I wanted to hold on to my name. Maybe someday, under different ownership, it will cease being a cesspool.
• Strava - I do use Strava… sometimes, and purely for the social aspects while training with a team for an event. When I’m not actively training for something and have no compelling justification for sharing (like now), I purge my account of any history and stop syncing my ride data.
• Youtube - I post videos of my light show. I engage with my subscribers when they leave comments.

So that’s it. If you see social media profile that sounds like me, but the profile doesn’t link back here… it’s not me. And if you’re looking to get in touch, Fediverse/Mastodon is probably your best shot.
